Valuable lesson
Adoption is one of those things that to me is as natural a way to start a family as giving birth. It always has been it probably always will be. I do not believe family is only made through blood. If that was true I'd have no siblings instead I have three wonderful ones. I believe there is no greater gift, no more incredible blessing, and no more truer miracle then becoming a parent and it doesn't matter how you become one. Whether you carry the child in your womb, or someone else carries it for you, or you adopt, it is still your child and it is a treasure. A mom is a mom is a mom and it doesn't matter how you get there. I also strongly believe that a woman who finds herself pregnant but knows in her heart that for whatever reason she can't keep that child and there for finds a loving family for that child to be adopted into is truly an angel. She be able to make such a huge sacrifice in the name of love is truly aw inspiring. A woman who performs such a selfless act should always know that she is an incredible human being, and that child should know they weren't placed for adoption because they weren't loved they were placed because they were. I realize that a birth mother is most likely going to feel loss and so will the child at some point to some degree. But I do not agree that the adoptive family suffers a loss. We are the fortunate ones. The ones that are going to get the baby of our dreams, the ones that are truly being blessed. We are being given a huge privilege and responsibility that we should be humbled and honored by. I realize not all adopted family's will feel this way but it's how I feel. I also am a firm believer that God helps those who help themselves. If you want something you can't just sit around hoping and praying for it you have to work for it. Nothing worth having comes easy. A couple who wants to adopt has to put themselves out there as much as possible so that a birth mother who is looking for a couple to adopt her baby can find them. Just like a birth mother has to look for the couple that will be best for her baby. Everyone must work together to find one another and in the end what is best for the child. However, tonight I have learned one more valuable lesson. Just because this is how I percieve things doesn't mean everyone else does. And to some my ideas may seem offensive or disrespectful. Which means when advertizing Adam and myself I have to be very careful.

Katie

So I started writing a new fan fic for Numb3rs today. I think it's pretty good if I do say so my self :-). I want to get a good amount written before I post. Anyway, one of the characters is going to be in serious danger and someone you wouldn't normally expect is going to truly save them. I think people will like it.

A scare can be productive and dipping 101
A co worker of mine had a bad scare with his health over the weekend, but I think it actually scared some sense into him. This co worker has smoked for years and was convinced that it couldn't really hurt him, that the government was making the stuff up about it being bad for you. Well, on Friday he started having chest pains. Turns out his heart is badly damaged from all the years of smoking. He's got three kids at home and is happily married. He also is one of our best TA's. So he's got a lot to live for. So he came in today and announced that he has officially and permanently given up smoking. He has a patch on and he's determined to never touch a cigarette again. As for his heart? The doctors are hoping that between him not smoking anymore and medicine he'll be okay. I'm sorry he had such a scare but I think it did him some good.

Now on to the lighter part of my day and my post :-). Dipping 101. In the kids lunches today they had carrots and dip one of our students, I'll call her Kathy, was having trouble with the whole dipping concept. She was just dropping the carrots into the container then fishing them out with her fingers thus making a big mess. So began dipping 101. Grab, hold on, don't let it go, dip, lift, eat I chanted. And by the end of lunch I'm happy to say she had it!

What a great day
Talk about a nice Sunday. This morning I went out to breakfast with a good friend of mine. We had a great time :-). We both needed to go to the store and since I was having a cook out tonight she gave me advice on the burgers. This after noon my husband and I just relaxed around the condo then about four our friends arrived and we just finished a great cook out. We had burgers, fruit salad, and coleslaw, and brownies for dessert. They just left to go home and put their kids to bed. Adam is resting in front of the TV and I'm relaxing on here. The weekend is coming to a close and I can honestly say it was a great one.

What a great idea
Yesterday I went to a friend's birthday party and it was so much fun. She had a kids party. There were about 17 adults there and 9 kids. We made boats out of nuts, clay, tooth picks, and paper then had a boat race in a kid pool with everyone blowing them across. Mine sunk, to much clay . We made ice cream sundays, and they even had a pinyata, not sure about the spelling of that. And you know what it was hard to tell at times who was having the most fun the kids or the adults. I told my friend I thought it was so cool to have a party that brought every ones inner child out. She said that another reason was so that her friends with kids wouldn't have to find baby sitters. Which of course makes a lot of sense. But either way it was great getting to be a kid again for a few hours :-).

What a great way to start the weekend!
Last night was wonderful! My friends and I went to the Martina Mcbride concert and it was awesome! We had back stage VIP passes and front row center seats! We were so close that if we just leaned forward a bit and turned our heads we could see the play list! When we went back stage to meet her she was so friendly and personable. There were about 15 of us who got to go back stage. We were all given gift bags with her picture, a thermos, key chain, teddy bear, and a pen and pencil set in it. Then we each got to have our picture taken with her and got to have her autograph something. Her show was amazing! She a bunch of her old hits as well as her new stuff. She joked around on stage and even took the time to sign a couple things for these little kids that were standing fight by the stage. She's such a class act.

My day
Sparky came in today with three bandages on her head but she did seem calmer and more in control. She also responded really well to this vibrating mat so that was good.

Had a cute moment when I was telling this one student to eat her breakfast. She looks right at mme and says say please. LOL

The teachers aid who was in the room yesterday when Sparky hurt herself was kind of miffed at me and tried telling me there wasn't that much blood. I'm like buddy it doesn't matter how much was or wasn't there she was bleeding. And if you had been doing your job there wouldn't have been as big a problem because you would have put the braces back on as soon as she'd gotten them off. Some people!

My parents ended up staying another day due to meetings running long so we're having dinner with them again tonight :-).

Peace
Katie

My morning thoughts
The snow has melted which is definitely a good sign. It's not warm yet but it's better.

We had dinner with my parents last night. Dad was a little swollen from his dental work but was fine other wise. He had been talking all day about having a chocolate milk shake and it sounded so good we all got one. Ah the perks of dental work LOL.

Since Sparky re inured herself yesterday I'm not sure if she'll be at school today or not. I hope she is. She's always more agitated when she misses.

We're having dinner with a wonderful friend of ours tonight. She's actually the person who introduced my husband and I. We always love spending time with her.

I can't believe it's already Thursday this week just flew by. Tomorrow night my friends and I are going to the Martina Mcbride concert. I'm so excited! She is my favorite singer!

Peace
Katie

What a day
First off it's snowing in April That's just wrong LOL.

I get to school today and while I'm watching one of the students who'd gotten to school super early another student arrived with their father. So the father and I start talking and he starts venting to me about how this school doesn't teach and how he's tried to sue before. I try to assure him that we do teach and he tells me he's been around this school longer then I have and it doesn't teach. Great way to start the day.

The student who mutilates was back today. She had a bandage on her for head that didn't completely cover the damage she'd done. And after almost two weeks of being out she was a live wire to say the least. When I went to put her arm braces on her I discovered that the velcro strap which keeps them connected behind her back thus making it harder for her to hit herself had broken. Luckily the braces were working okay anyway and she did have her helmet on. So after I have my lunch I have some extra time so I call my Mom to check in on my Dad who had dental surgery, he's fine by the way, as we're talking I decide to go on back into the class room. Where I find that the girl who mutilates, I'll call her Sparky, has gotten out of her braces ripped the bandage off and is now bleeding where she's re injured herself. I quickly tell my Mom I'll call her back. The aid is oblivious and I have to ask him to call the nurse while I struggle to stop her from hitting herself more. He presses the call button and before the secretary can even respond is out the door muttering about it being his lunch break now. Luckily help soon arrived and not a minute to soon as Sparky began throwing up. It took half the period to get her all sorted out.

I got home and treated myself to a cup of tea.

Don't get me wrong. I love what I do. I am one of the lucky few that wakes up in the morning excited to go to work and comes home happy and fulfilled. But boy what a day! LOL

Peace
Katie

Morning thoughts
One of my students who self mutilates has been out all week. I've heard conflicting stories on what exactly happened over spring break which was last week. I hope she's back today but I'm worried to see just how bad she's hurt herself this time. She's already managed to bite her lower lip off.

My Dad's having minor dental surgery today, he asked my husband and I to bring him a milk shake for dinner tonight. At any rate I'm sure he'll be on my mind all day.

It's so gloomy out complete with snow. Hopefully this is the last snow of the season.

I have to go now, I'll report back tonight.
Peace
Katie
